Description
The universal symbol of the Christian faith is neither a crib nor a manger, but a gruesome cross. Yet many people are unclear about its meaning, and cannot understand why Christ had to die.

In this magisterial and best-selling book, John Stott explains the significance of Christ's cross and answers the objections commonly brought against biblical teaching on the atonement.

John Stott's modern classic is as sharp and pertinent as ever it was. It combines an excellent biblical exposition, and a characteristically thoughtful study of Christian belief, with a searching call to the church to live under the cross. - from Amzon

Ephraim Kironji
Authors name: John Stott.
Title of the Book: The Cross of Christ.
Introduction
The Authors aim is to help believers’ especially Christian leaders to set out the meaning of the Cross of Christ for the church and for the world.
Body
He divides the book into four major sections namely; Approaching the Cross; The Heart of the Cross; the Achievement of the Cross and Living under the Cross respectively.
The first section offers a survey of Christian history, reflecting on the remarkable way in which the Cross became the central theme and foundational image of the Christian faith. It will also help us answer the question of why Christ died.
When we come to the heart of the Cross, he argues for a truly biblical understanding of the notions of Satisfaction and Substitution. Here, we shall learn that God must satisfy himself by substituting himself in Christ for us.
In the third section, he moves to the three great achievements of the Cross, namely saving sinners, revealing God and Conquering evil. As for salvation, he studies the four words namely, propitiation, redemption, justification and reconciliation. He explains that these are New Testament images of what God has done in and through Christ’s death. He also helps see that when we look at the Cross we should see his justice, love, wisdom and his power.
In the fourth section, he tries to explain what it truly means for believers to live under the Cross. He tries to shows how the Cross should transform everything. He will try to show how the Cross gives us a new, worshipping relationship to God, a new and balanced understanding of ourselves, a new incentive to give ourselves in mission, a new love for our enemies and a new courage to face the perplexities of suffering.

Conclusion
But in your hearts honor Christ the Lord as holy, always being prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you: yet do it with gentleness and respect.(1 Peter 3:15).
The call for every believer is to always be prepared to make a defense for the hope that is in them with a lot gentleness and humility. Many believers however have found it not being easy. The Cross of Christ therefore is a classic to help us because it is a well reasoned, biblical and contextually applicable Christian book.

I therefore highly recommend this book to every professing believer. As you read through, it’s my prayer that you shall see the Glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.
